1. About Onjongil
Onjongil (the “App”) helps English-speaking learners write a Korean journal, review their writing, request AI feedback, and revisit what they have learned. This policy explains what information the App processes and why.
2. Information processed
Depending on the features you use, the App may process:
- journal titles, text, dates, mood selections, corrections, vocabulary, and learning progress;
- theme, text-size, reminder, and other local preferences;
- a Firebase anonymous identifier created when a server feature requires authentication;
- if you link Google, your account identifier, display name, email address, and profile-image URL;
- for AI feedback, the selected entry text and title, entry and app identifiers, relevant correction context, and the minimum information required to apply usage limits and return a response;
- technical and usage information such as app version, installation or account identifier, feature interactions, writing duration, character and word counts, mood selection, response time, correction count, and error type when analytics is enabled.
3. Local journal and cloud backup
Your journal is local-first and is stored in the App's private database on your device. If you link a Google account, entries and related feedback may be copied to Firebase for backup and restoration on another device.
Entries in the trash may be restored or permanently deleted. Uninstalling the App removes its private local data, but it does not remove a cloud backup linked to an account.
4. AI feedback
Journal text is sent for AI processing only when you request feedback. The App sends the selected text and necessary context to Firebase Functions, which uses an external AI provider to generate Korean corrections and English explanations. The current service uses OpenAI models.
AI feedback is optional. You can write, edit, save, and read entries without requesting it. The service may retain usage, quota, request status, feedback, and derived learning statistics needed to provide the feature, prevent duplicate processing, and support learning history.
5. Authentication, subscriptions, and service data
A server feature such as AI feedback may create a Firebase anonymous session so the request can be authenticated, limited, and protected from abuse. Linking Google upgrades or replaces that session and enables account-based backup and synchronization.
If you buy Premium, Google Play processes the purchase. The service stores the minimum subscription and verification state required to unlock and restore Premium. We do not receive your full payment-card details.
6. Analytics, diagnostics, and notifications
Production releases may use Firebase Analytics to understand feature use and improve reliability. Analytics events do not include the journal title or journal text, but may include counts, durations, mood selection, feature state, and technical identifiers. Debug and designated internal test devices are excluded by the App's collection policy.
Writing reminders and weekly reminders are scheduled locally on the device when enabled and may require Android notification permission.
7. Service providers
The App uses Google Firebase, Google Play, and OpenAI services. Information sent to those services is handled under their applicable terms and privacy commitments. We do not sell personal information or journal content.
8. Security
Online communications use encrypted connections. We also use authentication, App Check, access rules, and server-side validation. No electronic transmission or storage system can guarantee absolute security.
9. Children
The App is intended for adults aged 18 or older and is not directed to children under 13. If we learn that a child's personal information was processed without appropriate authorization, we will take reasonable steps to delete it.
10. Account and data deletion
You may permanently delete local entries in the App and remove remaining local data by uninstalling it. To request deletion of cloud data or an account relationship, follow the account and data deletion instructions.
Onjongil shares authentication infrastructure with other apps from the same developer. Before deleting a global Firebase Authentication identity, we may confirm whether it is also used by another app. This does not prevent deletion of Onjongil-specific data included in a verified request.
11. Retention
We retain information only while needed to provide and protect the service, comply with legal obligations, and resolve disputes. Verified deletion requests are normally completed within 30 days. Limited security, fraud-prevention, transaction, or legal records may be retained longer when required.
12. Changes and contact
We may update this policy as the App changes. The current effective date will be shown on this page, and material changes will be communicated through reasonable channels.
